This just in… Mary Tyler Moore has died at the age of 80. This is according to TMZ.
Moore’s longtime representative, Mara Buxbaum, has issued a statement that Moore passed away this afternoon in a Connecticut hospital. Buxbaum says, “Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine.”
The statement adds, “A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile.”
Moore had reportedly been on a respirator for more than a week, and more recently underwent brain surgery in 2011.
Moore stared on “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” and had a successful run with her own show “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” in the 70s. She even earned an Oscar nomination in 1980 for her role in “Ordinary People.”
